Beautiful CPH

It has been a fun weekend for sure!  Saturday night there was a block party in Noreen's dorm that we went to.  There are eight floors in her building and each floor has a theme, and sets out drinks and food for everyone.  Then we start at the eighth floor and work our way down, switching every half hour.  Our theme was grandparents, others picked waldo, jungle, gentlemen, etc.  It was so much fun and such a great way to meet Danes!  I made so many friends and talked to a chef about the food he makes for a while!  After that we went out and met up with some Danes that Noreen knew and they took us to their friends apartment and then to a nice bar.  The apartment was so crazy, the back door literally opened up onto the water of a canal, no back porch or anything!  The bar was really nice too with low lighting and lots of people!  Sunday we rode our bikes to the Diversity Festival.  It was a collection of so many different ethnicities making food and offering crafts to buy, the smell a mix of good food and incense.

Today we started our core course week which means we are doing only architecture related stuff for the whole week.  We went on the best field trip ever to the Architecture School of Copenhagen, the Architecture Museum and to see the site of the building we are going to design for our project.  It was such a beautiful day and we were by/on the canals all day.  We rode a water taxi to the Arch. School, and passed by two amazing examples of modern Copenhagen architecture, the Black Diamond Library and the Opera House.  They school was really cool too, it's the students first week so they were having fun and doing lots of activities.  One of them was ten students on a small raft trying to figure out how to get across the canal, there was loud music and everyone was cheering while they got soaking wet!

I have also decided to not be a full vegetarian anymore.  I probably will be when I return to the states, but for now it makes more sense to not follow it so strictly.  Every Monday, the Danes on my hall cook and eat dinner together and I don't want to make them have to cook something special for me every time.  I have also done research and the farming practices are nothing like they are back home.  The animals are raised in much better conditions and on a smaller scale because they don't have to feed as many people.  In the summer the animals are raised outside and in the winter in barns.  The Danes have used the same farming technique since the 1800s!  It is also culturally relevant because some of the typical Danish cuisine includes it and I want to get the full experience while I'm here.  The local and well treated animals were my main issue and I don't have to worry about that here.  I won't be eating bacon anytime soon for sure, but for now it's a step in the right direction.  (This is all only if eating the meat doesn't make me sick).

Finally, a good looking dinner!

Me and Noreen dressed as grandmas.

Diversity festival!

New Copenhagen library, called the Black Diamond.  The old library is on the left, another example of how they seamlessly combine old and new instead of knocking it down and starting over.

Opera house.

Sand castle festival, look at the castles compared to the people.

One of the many canals, I think every person must have a boat there were so many!

Such a beautiful place.

Fresh apples and plums picked right from the trees!

Swans on the dock of a canal.

Detailed model with tiny human figures.

Model of the Rodovre Skyscraper which was built in Copenhagen.  I'll have to go see it in real life.

Cute cafe at the Architecture Meuseum
